7 Questions to ask that may indicate you have Sleep Apnea

by admin on August 18, 2009

Since one out of three adults have some type of obstructive sleep disorder, I include in my sleep and medical update questionnaire the following important 7 questions:

1)  Do you snore?

2)  Do you have high blood pressure?

3)  Has anyone reported that you gasp or choke for air while sleeping?

4)  What is your neck size (more than 15 1/2″ for women, and more than 17″ for men is one of the indicators I look for when diagnosing for sleep apnea).

5)  Have you ever tried a CPAP (oxygen mask at night)?

6)  Do you wake up refreshed?

7) Are you excessively tired during the day?

If some or all of these questions are answered by a ‘YES’, it definitely indicates further follow-up.  Remember, sleep apnea can lead to heart problems and even stroke.  Its important to know if you have it, or not.
