Many of my patients have enjoyed the use of my new, laser-thin micro drills that can remove tooth decay without the need for an injection of novocaine. Best of all, using these drills means decay removal simply doesn’t hurt, and you don’t leave the dental office with half your face feeling numb for hours!
How is this possible?
First of all, the drill is so thin and tiny that when the decay is removed, the nerves in the tooth remain largely untouched. Also consider the fact that with regular dental drilling, large chunks of healthy tooth structure are removed alongside the diseased, decayed tooth. (Much like in cancer therapy, where both the bad AND good cells are removed by radiation treatment.) However with the use of these micro drills, healthy tooth material is barely touched. And that is great news, because it reduces the chance of future crown work on the tooth!
